Felting needles are used by fiber artists to sculpt and felt wool. They have a long shank, with a narrow shaft and a sharp tip. The shaft of these needles is either triangular or star shaped. The thin shaft has indentations or notches that catch the wool and cause it to be felted. The number of notches and their depth on the shaft varies between needles.

Like wire, the higher the number, the thinner the diameter. The 36T is best for deep coarse felting. The 38T is a good all-purpose needle and the 38S is good for fast felting. The 40T and 42T will leave the least visible hole in the finished piece, making them ideal for fine details

FELTING SPONGE

This is an all natural vegetable cellulose pop-up sponge. It is an extra-deep 1 1/4 inches to provide plenty of room for the needle to penetrate. Its density makes it a good pad for the needles to felt into and it makes a nice holder too. One is included in each package.
